    Two British Cheese Award medals for Organic Kingdom

    OMSCo's newly branded Organic Kingdom cheddar range received two medals at the British Cheese Awards, held at the 2018 Royal Bath and West Show last week.
    A silver medal was awarded to the Organic Kingdom Mature Cheddar in the Export Cheddar class, with a bronze also awarded to the Organic Kingdom Mild Cheddar in the Mild Cheddar class.
    "To be recognised at such a highly respected event is a great achievement for Organic Kingdom," explains OMSCo’s Head of Marketing Nicola Turner.
    "This prize follows another recent win at the Devon County Show, where our cheese was crowned 'overall dairy champion'. We have a number of other awards coming up throughout the year and we hope that we can continue to emulate this success."

    British Organic Dairy Company crowned dairy champion

    Cheese from the British Organic Dairy Company (BODC), a joint venture between OMSCo and Wyke Farms was crowned Dairy Produce Champion at the 2018 Devon County Show last week.
    The winning cheese, an Organic Kingdom Mature Cheddar, was also placed first in the block mature cheddar cheese (modern) class.
    "This is a great achievement for the business as the Devon County Show marked the first showing opportunity for our new joint venture," explains Head of Marketing Nicola Turner.
    The BODC also took first place in the organic cheese class, as well as securing second place in the cheese for export class.

    OMSCo are pleased to announce that they have been shortlisted in the Leading Co-operative of the Year category at this year’s Co-operatives UK awards. This category is for co-operatives with a turnover greater than £30m per annum.
    The nomination sees OMSCo up against high-performing retail and service industry co-operatives, for example The Co-operative Group and to be shortlisted for such an accolade is an achievement in itself.
    OMSCo are the only farming co-operative to make it to the shortlist and to have been selected against such high profile and sizeable businesses is a great result for OMSCo and is testimony to the passion and drive of its members.
    The award is now open to a public vote and the voting window closes on 15th June. The award is due to be announced at the Co-operative Congress on Saturday 23rd June.

    British organic food producers have a ‘substantial’ opportunity to export goods to the US, and are in a strong position to take advantage of the rapidly rising £28 billion a year demand for organic food on the other side of the Atlantic. However, existing trade – growing annually - is under serious threat unless a new equivalence agreement in regard to organic standards between the two countries is signed before the end of this year.

    UK organic milk volumes increased by 4.4% in 2016, in contrast to the standard milk category which fell by 1.9% during the same period.

    The increase is being attributed to an organic milk recovery, in spite of reducing conventional prices and increasing organic shelf premiums.
