Cautious shoppers determined to steer clear of "Frankenstein Foods" may still be buying groceries tainted with the controversial technology, it emerged yesterday. A leading environmental pressure group is claiming a range of basic foods, from meat to milk, produced from livestock reared on feed that has been genetically modifed have slipped back onto store shelves.

Greenpeace collected data on a wide range of everyday produce "contaminated" after animals were given GM feeds shipped in from America.

According to the findings none of the 10 major supermarkets can guarantee their own-brand milk comes from cows fed on a GM-free diet.

The new Greenpeace on-line GM Shopper's Guide lists product lines stocked by top ten retailers in three categories, red, amber and green.

The new Shopper's Guide, can be found at www.greenpeace.org.uk/Products/GM/index.cfm.
