English Nature has warned that the countryside could be devastated by the 'super-weed' legacy of GM farming. Giving evidence to the Government's GM science review, it states that without strict constraints on the use of toxic weedkillers, insects and birds that live off wild plants could be killed. English Nature has warned minister to prepare for the 'worst case' scenario if GM crops are grown commercially in the UK. English Nature suggests more crops trials, and drafted detailed and binding rules on how and where farmers grow GM crops.
