Melissa Kidd, information projects officer at the Soil Association, takes a look at the rise of the organic dairy sector in the Dairy supplement of the latest edition of Speciality Food Magazine. She writes ‘should you be preparing to climb on the milk float and ride the crest of the wave?’ Ben Cull, marketing director at Soil Association licensee Yeo Valley is interviewed, “Organic food is a win win category for any retailer. In virtually every sector where there is an organic contender its growth rate is faster than the market as a whole and in dairy. There’s little doubt that demand for organic dairy products in 2006 will be stronger then ever before”. Figures from Omsco for 2005/6 back up Culls’ positive attitude. Forecasted demand growth of liquid milk stands at 65%, for yoghurt it’s 26% and for cheese it is 14%.
