Organic farming can deliver tremendous welfare benefits for farmed animals but the organic sector still needs to improve its standards, according to the report 'Batteries Not Included', published by the Soil Association. The report called for more clarity about the appropriate use of conventional veterinary treatments in organic farming.
Peter Melchett, the SA's policy director, said: "We can be clear in the light of this report that Soil Association standards are better for animal welfare than any others, organic or non-organic.
